The Fonts I Have Decided To Use On (And In)

The Images I Used In My Own Music Magazine:

For the 'Front Cover' and my 'Contents Page' and for my 'Feature Article' I used:

Monday, 10 January 2011

I have decided to create a music magazine that features solitary music from the 1980s. In the following paragraphs I will write a little bit of history on music from this time and which genres or key events from this time I have chosen to feature in my own music magazine.

Although the music from the 1980s had their share of one-hit wonders, many artists have continued their share a great deal of success. Artists like 'Bon Jovi', 'Michael Jackson' and 'Madonna' gained enormous reputations in the 1980s and are still popular as ever and are still creating best-selling albums and for most sell out concerts that are popular among both young and old fans. I might consider doing a feature article on one of these popular artists.

As it is noted as a popular form of music and has influenced many artists in the music industry of today I may consider creating my feature article or cover article on the music form of Synthpop. Synthpop was another genre of music that came about during this era. This form held on to many of the qualities of the popular Punk Rock genre coming out of the 1970s, but it had different features. While the Punk Rock of the 1970s was revenge against the government, the Synthpop forms were meant to be anti-corporation in a more experimental sense, both melodically and lyrically. Bands like 'The Police' and 'Duran Duran' are recognizable names that fit into this category of 1980s music.

The 1980s also saw the formation of a harder type of rock and metal known more commonly as Thrash Metal. Bands like 'Metallica', 'Megadeth', and 'Slayer' created electrifying guitar riffs and headbanging beats that could only be enjoyed at maximum volume.

It is a strong possibility that I may do a feature article on the era of Glam Rock this included bands like 'T Rex', 'Poison', and other bands that were known for wild hair, tons of hairspray, and flashy stage outfits. Band members were also known for makeup as a form of shock and rebellion against the strict culture of the times such as 'David Bowie' and 'Boy George'.

Premiering in 1981, 'MTV' gave bands and singers more publicity for their music in a greater and widespread medium. 'MTV' perhaps could have been one of the most influential thing in the music industry during the 1980s. Many authorities have said that 'MTV' is what made 'Duran Duran' one of the most popular bands to come out of the 1980s era.

The charity concert 'Live Aid' in 1985. Dozens of artists contributed to this project as well as the signature song “We Are the World” that raised millions of pounds to help relieve hunger in Ethiopia. Band Aid was another concert aimed at a purpose to bring awareness to the general public about AIDS as well as the dangers of nuclear war. At the time, the Cold War between the United States and the USSR was a major issue on the minds of the people in the world.

Journalism Practise - Review Of 'Death Note'

The story of the Japanese Manga television series ‘Death Note’ follows Light, a typical high school student, after he finds the‘Death Note’. Instead of being some ordinary note book or diary it has the power to kill anybody whose name is written inside. When Light realizes what he has, he has the idea to make the earth a better place to live. It doesn’t take long for police around the world to realize that their lawbreakers are dying without warning.

I would have liked if the suggestions of Kira’s rise and demise on society would have been examined more. One character mentions that all war has stopped because of Kira. So while it’s easy to hate Kira but what would someone living in a country that’s been ravaged by civil war for 20 years think of Kira and his ability to stop war? And I’d love to see how the world would go downhill into chaos after news of Kira’s death was made known.

This leads me to the last point I wanted to mention about this show. If I had the opportunity to find the ‘Death Note’; would I use it? I think I would, even though I know that it’ll probably turn out bad, the temptation would be too great.

So while the idea was one of the best I've seen to come out of Japanese Anime in a while, ‘Death Note’ in the long run falls short because of the seemingly pointless death of the character Light. However, this show is undeniably worth a watch and I enjoyed it and it might be worth purchasing on DVD by some readers out there.
Mood Board And Analysis For My Own Music magazine

My aim with my own music magazine is going to be creating a NME style magazine that appeals to 17-24 year old teenage/young adults and dominantly a male audience.

NME current target reader’s age range is 17-30 years and males. Currently more than 70% male readers and below 30% female. Another reason I have decided to create a NME style magazine is because the statistics say that 62% of the readers have bought and read the magazine at least 3 times out of 4 issues and that almost half (49%) the readers have been reading for at least 3 years. A further fact, 84% the readers say that the magazine provides all the appropriate information that they want; therefore i am going to try and make my magazine as appealing as NME.

I have included pictures of a Blackberry torch mobile telephone (which at this time is one of the most up to date mobile telephones on the market) this is so that i can appeal to the sort of people that like to keep up with the latest technologies as i have found out 59% of NME readers admit they like to do. I have also included the picture of the main characters from the E4 television show The Inbetweeners, despite the fact the characters are wearing school uniform my age range only covers people in their college and possibly gap year and university years. The Inbetweeners is one of E4s most successful shows; grossing over 2.2 million viewers earlier this year, which works out to be around 10.5% of the overall viewing figures of E4 on that day. Even the repeat later that evening on E4+1 grossed around 375,000 people. The fact all the main characters in my mood board are males confirms and suggests how my magazine dominantly aimed at a male audience. Moving swiftly on, I have also included the logos from both Facebook and Windows Live Messenger (MSN) as these are two of the most popular social networking websites used by my age group. To show the kind of person I am aiming to appeal too I have include the picture of a Converse trainer and a Snood scarf as I am aiming to appeal to not just any old male teenager/young adult but one who may be a little bit fashion conscious and takes pride into what he or she is wearing. The use of the A2 Physics and AS/A2 Human Biology books is again to confirm the age range of my intended audience and to outline the sort of subjects that they may take not necessarily the sort of person who takes all the art subjects and prefers to take more of an intellectual sort of male or female and has dreams of becoming something important that pays well. At the same time to hint the fact my target audience maybe a little like the typical teenager of today I have also included the images of a microwave and a couple of bottles of WKD/Vodka which could suggest that my target reader could have a lazy and unmotivated view on things in life such as getting out of bed and doing exactly what a parent wants etc.
