Mood Board And Analysis For My Own Music magazine

My aim with my own music magazine is going to be creating a NME style magazine that appeals to 17-24 year old teenage/young adults and dominantly a male audience.

NME current target reader’s age range is 17-30 years and males. Currently more than 70% male readers and below 30% female. Another reason I have decided to create a NME style magazine is because the statistics say that 62% of the readers have bought and read the magazine at least 3 times out of 4 issues and that almost half (49%) the readers have been reading for at least 3 years. A further fact, 84% the readers say that the magazine provides all the appropriate information that they want; therefore i am going to try and make my magazine as appealing as NME.

I have included pictures of a Blackberry torch mobile telephone (which at this time is one of the most up to date mobile telephones on the market) this is so that i can appeal to the sort of people that like to keep up with the latest technologies as i have found out 59% of NME readers admit they like to do. I have also included the picture of the main characters from the E4 television show The Inbetweeners, despite the fact the characters are wearing school uniform my age range only covers people in their college and possibly gap year and university years. The Inbetweeners is one of E4s most successful shows; grossing over 2.2 million viewers earlier this year, which works out to be around 10.5% of the overall viewing figures of E4 on that day. Even the repeat later that evening on E4+1 grossed around 375,000 people. The fact all the main characters in my mood board are males confirms and suggests how my magazine dominantly aimed at a male audience. Moving swiftly on, I have also included the logos from both Facebook and Windows Live Messenger (MSN) as these are two of the most popular social networking websites used by my age group. To show the kind of person I am aiming to appeal too I have include the picture of a Converse trainer and a Snood scarf as I am aiming to appeal to not just any old male teenager/young adult but one who may be a little bit fashion conscious and takes pride into what he or she is wearing. The use of the A2 Physics and AS/A2 Human Biology books is again to confirm the age range of my intended audience and to outline the sort of subjects that they may take not necessarily the sort of person who takes all the art subjects and prefers to take more of an intellectual sort of male or female and has dreams of becoming something important that pays well. At the same time to hint the fact my target audience maybe a little like the typical teenager of today I have also included the images of a microwave and a couple of bottles of WKD/Vodka which could suggest that my target reader could have a lazy and unmotivated view on things in life such as getting out of bed and doing exactly what a parent wants etc.
